"Silence In B’tween” is a professional, soft and ‘easy on the ears’ musical group of ‘fun-loving’ and passionate musicians who love blending classic musical genres of many generations, from the 40’s era to the modern scene. We play Foxtrots, Rumbas, Tango, Polkas, Waltzes, Cha-Cha’s, Two-Step and contemporary dancing styles from a repertoire of Yesteryear Pop/Vocal Greats, 50's Rock & Roll/Do-wop, Swing/Jazz, Traditional Country and 60’s/ 70’s Soft Rock music. We believe the secret to our success is to present a wide variety of musical styles to our audience and to make the show truly interactive.
“Silence In B’tween” is your perfect entertainment solution for Family Reunions, Weddings, House Parties, Anniversary/Milestone Celebrations, Social Club Gatherings, 60+plus Events, Seniors Events, Seniors Musical Entertainment, Dinner Dances or Cocktail Functions. The common attributes ascribed to their brave & unbiased repertoire are beautiful melodic structures layered with soft & crisp palette of acoustic sounds filled with dynamics and an inconspicuous silence between every musical note. Many groups shy away from playing the likes of Wilf Carter, Charlie Rich, Gordon Lightfoot, Frank Sinatra, Everly Brothers, BJ Thomas, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, Engelbert Humperdinck to Blue Rodeo, U2 and Glen Campbell but in their steadfast love of all music, the "Silence In B’tween" fills the void.
This acoustically inclined group will endeavor to provide a musical stream that will warm the heart & soul and enrich your special event with the unique ‘chameleon-like’ Vocals in its full splendor, Backup Vocal Harmonies, tasteful Piano sounds, Keyboard generated string sounds, light swinging’ Percussion & Brushes, Bass Guitar and Acoustic Guitar.
THE BAND:
John Hodgson
John is our feature Vocalist & Rhythm Guitar player and the most smooth, talking, moving guy in the group. John has the knack of getting the audience involved while he immerses himself with the crowd and quickly develops a rapport with the audience such that the smiling faces, the singing, the dancing and tapping of the feet is simply inevitable. John has the uncanny ability to emulate and sound like many of the great recording artists which we perform and is never without that smile and infectious enthusiasm that will warm your heart.
Neil Bentley
Our solid and dependable Bass Player and backup Vocalist is a huge asset to the group who along with our drummer truly keeps the 'under-carriage' of our repertoire moving along on a steady path. Neil began his professional music career in the mid-seventies working with local jazz and pop music bands in Calgary. After his first taste of country music he was hooked and began to work with Debi Lori Kaye and Donna and Leroy of The Tommy Hunter Show. This led to an opportunity to play with the legendary Ian Tyson as Ian began the incredibly successful cowboy music revival phase of his career. Neil has traveled North America and appeared on many concert stages, television and radio shows, recording with Ian and many other prominent musicians such as Cindy Church, Jan Arden and George Fox.
Neil and two other members of Ian Tyson's band formed the original Great Western Orchestra which went on to win a Juno.
Since 2002 Neil and his wife Darcie continue to operate their music teaching studio Discovery Music.
John deWaal
We are extremely fortunate to have John deWaal as our drummer. John has played with an impressive roster of international jazz luminaries. This includes Rosemary Clooney, David Friesen, Sheila Jordan, Rob McConnell, Marian McPartland, Bob Mintzer, George Robert, Maria Schneider, Doc Severinsen, Bobby Shew, Mike Tomaro,
Bill Watrous, and Phil Woods among others.
On the Canadian scene, John has appeared with Tommy Banks, Guido Basso, Brenda Earle, Hugh Fraser, Oliver Jones, Alastair Kay, Ranee Lee, Jens Lindemann, Ian McDougall, Phil Nimmons, P.J. Perry, Campbell Riga, Jennifer Scott, Ross Taggert, Don Thompson and Brad Turner.
His most recent CD projects are with his wife Mari Jo de Waal, Deanne Matley, Verismo and the second PrimeTime Big Band recording.
John has made a number of guest appearances with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed at several international jazz festivals including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, twice at the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Panama Jazz Festival. Since 1979 he maintained a full teaching schedule at the de Waal Music Studio which he closed in 2019 after 40 years.
Marc Lamontagne
Marc is our Keyboard/Piano player and the band’s ‘point person’ for bookings and such. On keyboards Marc continually attempts to cover multiple musical parts and although quiet is always excited and intense when tickling the ivories. Above all his true reason for playing is the love and appreciation for all forms of music and the pleasure it gives to listeners.
Marc has been part of the local music scene since the early 90’s having played with various bands in the Calgary area. He released his inaugural album of original works titled “Reflections In Melody” in June 2020.
